A great one word product specific .com sold today on sedo for $50,000

Humidifiers.com sold for $50,000 as reported in ‘recent sales’.

The domain name is still showing the most basic of holding pages with some adsense littered around so am assuming still in old owners hands, certainly the nameservers.

Screenshot from sedo's recent sales page today.

Although this is still a fair price for the domain name, it must be an enduser buy at this price.

The singular appears to be in the hands of an enduser although not currently resolving, not sure if they have a problem with their hosting as a recent screenshot of the site on domaintools makes you think it was/is a currently operating site.

Both dehumidifier.com and the plural are developed sites in the hands of enduser businesses, obviously understanding the power and importance of owning the generic product or service in .com

I would imagine these (dehumidifiers) are far more popular than humidifiers in terms of numbers sold.

Humidifiers are relatively cheap to buy. The cheapest being around £20 or $35. As they put mositure back into the atnosphere they aren’t much different to a glorified kettle.

Dehumidifiers on the other hand are a lot more pricy as taking moisture out of the environment and storing it is altogether more complicated and costly. The cheapest can be picked up for around £45 ($70) but for a decent one you need to be paying £100 and over.

Industrial Dehumidifiers cost a whole lot more!

B52 own many premium domains including Bookmarks.com & Funding.com

This recent .org sale joins a long list of impressive .org sales this year.

Noteworthy examples: Mortgage.org sold for an undisclosed fee but was rumoured to be one of the higest ever paid for a .org (i.e high six figures) as Poker.org sold for $1 million last year.

Also, autoinsurance.org sold for $440,000 this year.

Congrats on the sale guys, I think you got the most for this domain name.

LinkedIn.com has sold almost 8 million shares @ $45 each raising almost $353 million in cash. This was their initial U.S Public Offering and shares sold at the top end of the estimate.

62% of the stock sold is owned by LinkedIn, the remainder is owned by venture capital branch McGraw- Hill Cos. and Goldman Sachs Group.

The stock is officially publicly traded as from tomorrow on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) using the stock ticker LNKD.

The offering was led by Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase .

The money raised will be used to reinvest in their core operations and website or to possibly buy up any competitors and associated websites that could aid them, along with talent.

LinkedIn is free to open an account but you are limited what you can see of user profiles and who you can contact. The site is primarily used for business networking, although the lions share of revenue for the owners comes from recruitment companies and companies paying and subscribing to allow people to find professionals in their field and to network and essentially headhunt talent.

The actual domain name DomainName.com has been sold for $1 Million.

The domain was placed onto the market at the end of last summer and the sale has finally completed. The domain was sold on the BoxCar.com Domain Auction Platform in association with Domain Consultants.

Domaining – The online money making business of buying, reselling and monetizing domain names is a huge business and is going from strength to strength. Top end premium one and two word product and service domains are the holy grail. Generally in the .com extension or in favourable country extensions like .co.uk and .de , established markets.

DomainName.com was registered in 1997, 23rd July to be exact, the current owners have smartly renewed all the way through to 2019. We don’t want a million dollar domain name accidently dropping do we?

After all, there is a very good chance that is how the domain name was registered in the first place. After all, 1997 is a little ‘late’ for a domain name of this calibre to be registered. There is a very good chance it was registered in 1995 or 1996 and ran it’s course and the old owner decided not to renew as the renewal fees back then were around $100 per year with network solutions and a few years previously had been free.

If they had kept renewing this gem they would have had a million dollar payday. I would guesstimate a domain like this gets a couple of hundred (at least) direct type in visitors every day looking for domains. This would be without development.

Having said all this i feel the selling price is very much on the high side. It is the worst of the 4 possibilities imho.

DomainNames , Domain & Domains.com are far superior to this domain I feel.

All that being said this domain is developed for people to register domains and has an alexa of 177,000 so will get a fair old amount of traffic. I am guessing that the site was undeveloped or considered as such for DNJournal.com to report the sale, as Ron Jackson, the editor of DNJ, has strict rules on reporting domain name sales. This is why they are the undisputed Domain Industry Journal.

DSK (Dominique Strauss Kahn) has had his $1 Million Bail Money refused by a New York Judge.

The prosecution convinced the female Judge at Manhattan Criminal Court that DSK was a flight risk and should be not granted bail.

Strauss-Kahn being led in handcuffs by NYPD to the courthouse

DSK’s wife had already wired through 1 million dollars from her personal account to cover the bail. It was not needed. Judge Jackson ordered that Strauss-Kahn should be held over and detained at the infamous Riker’s Island Prison.

Riker’s Island Prison is a long way from the luxury hotel room and first class eat on the Air France plane that Mr.Strauss Kahn is used to. He is being held in an 11 foot by 13 foot prison cell.

There will be no luxuries, in fact we have already seen the way in which the U.S Authorities presume guilt before innocence with DSK paraded around in handcuffs and taken to a maximum security jail.

He is being held in segregation for his own protection, apparently in the section where prisoners with contagious diseases are normally kept.

As the head of the IMF, he would normally be used to all the luxuries and priveleges people could dream of. Inclusing protection. It is actually a bit of a mystery how one of the most important, powerful men in the world did not have security at his door at all times to protect him and how a maid could just walk in like that.

Imagine, a terrorist or any guest could have just walked in or approached him.

Strauss-Kahn had to go through all the standard checks all prisoners have to go through when arriving at Rikers Island. Including full cavity searches, naked photographs for evidence and identification along with being issued his basic provisions.

His supplies are limited to a cup, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, a few of his own books and it is believed he will be allowed to wear his own clothes unlike the other prisoners.

The still current IMF Chief has to rise at 6am, lights out at 11pm and has court in front of a Grand Jury on May 20th. His wife Anne Sinclair is due to visit him in prison today. He is allowed three visits a week.

DSK is currently also on suicide watch.

An idea to reward the hard-hit British taxpayer with a share certificate worth £1000 ,in the Banks they effectively part own, has been put forward by the Centre For Policy Studies (a Conservative Think-Tank) and the Liberal Democrats.

It really sticks in most taxpayers gut that they bailed out RBS and Lloyds with their hard earned tax and yet have nothing to show for it. In fact even worse the major Banks have stopped lending altogether and dropped savings rates along with reduced mortgage offers.

The Government went ahead with no say from the public and shelled out £45 Billion for a 84% stake in The Royal Bank of Scotland and over £20 Billion for a 43% stake in Lloyds in 2008 at the height of the economic crisis.

The Banks are performing even worse than when we bailed them out so shares would be made at a loss if sold now. The deal (if it happens) would be that all taxpayers in the UK, of which there are over 46 Million, would receive an equal share in the equity of the two banks in the form of share certificates, at the proposed sum of £1000 per person.

The shares would only be allowed to be sold, when and if the values of the Banks rose. Quite how this would work if shreholders enmasse decided to sell the minyte prices rose above the minimum level and how it would affect the banks? Negatively one would think.

Under the proposals unveiled today, every taxpayer will be given 1,450 shares in RBS and 450 shares in Lloyds.

They would only be able to sell off the shares when the price is above that the Government paid for them.

When selling the stake individual taxpayers would still be liable to pay capital gains tax on their windfall, which is levied at 18 per cent.

The treasury is considering the proposal currently, I think it could be a votewinner. Bribery in it’s broadest sense and really just handing something out that the taxpayer already effectively owns. The smart money could be holding the shares for the long haul. We have to get the certificates first, and we know only too well how parties, mps and ideas come and go.

Oh, and just before you get too excited, you will be paying 18% tax ‘when’ you sell, in Capital Gains Tax.

The financial burdom of this loan will be borne by 3 parties. Each will contribute 26 BILLION EUROS to the pot.

However the National Savings & Investments Bonds have returned for safe savers. The last time these bonds were available was in July 2010, they were taken off the market then due to high demand. Since then, last month in fact, George Osborne (chancellor of the exchequer) has increased the budget for backing of these bonds by another £2 billion.

This has been to encourage saving, and provide a safe place to save for 5 year bond plans, for those that can afford to save.

The minimum amount that can be saved is £100 and the maximum is £15,000

Any money that is saved in these bonds is guaranteed by the UK Government, so you cannot lose your money. Any interest made is tax-free. This bond has been widely recommended as part of a wider ranging portfolio to provide higher than average returns, taxfree over a reasonable time period of 5 years.

Jane Platt, NS&I chief executive said that these bonds would be available for a limited time.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn is the 62 year old Head of the IMF (International Monetary Fund).

The Frenchman is also a leading figure in the Socialist Party in France and was seen as a leading candidate to challenge Sarkozy for the French Presidency at the next round of elections.

However that has all been thrown into chaos, along with the running and leadership of the IMF after yesterdays events in New York.

Strauss-Kahn has been widely credited for aiding nations throughout the economic crisis through his stewardship of the IMF, through extremely difficult times.

According to sources Strauss-Kahn is appearing before a New York State Court today on allegations of a criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment relating to an incident involving a 32-year-old woman.

In fact Paul Browne, the spokesman for New York Police Department, said the IMF Head had been charged with these allegations.

This is going to seriously hamper the IMF’s task of shoring up all of the struggling economies in Europe. Their work is cut out at the moment with problems throughout the Eurozone. In particular Ireland, Greece and Spain all in a state of disarray.

It is not known the IMF’s position and who will replace Strauss-Khan as they have not yet commented on his arrest and the charges laid forth.

Strauss-Kahn was staying at the Sofitel Hotel near Times Square.

Apparently the IMF Head was paying $3000 a night for the room.

The allegations against Strauss-Kahn have been made by a 32 year old chambermaid who works at the Sofitel Hotel.

Paul Brown , the NYPD spokesman, made this statement in relation to the attack:

“We received a call that a chambermaid in a hotel in midtown Manhattan had been sexually assaulted by the occupant of a luxury suite at that hotel, and that that individual had fled.”

“The maid described being forcibly attacked, locked in the room and and sexually assaulted.”

“She told detectives he came out of the bathroom naked, ran down a hallway to the foyer where she was, pulled her into a bedroom and began to sexually assault her, according to her account.”

“She pulled away from him and he dragged her down a hallway into the bathroom where he engaged in a criminal sexual act, according to her account to detectives. He tried to lock her into the hotel room.”

Allegedly, Strauss-Kahn fled the scene leaving personal possessions and even his mobile phone behind.

NYPD Officers quickly established who had been accused and set about finding him.

The head of the IMF was sitting on the runway in an Air France plane waiting to fly out of JFK airport back to Paris.

The NYPD spokesman goes on:

“Our detectives requested of the airport authorities that they stop the plane from leaving, went to the airport and took him into custody.”

“If our officers had been 10 minutes later he would have been in the air and on their way to France.”

“The woman has been treated at hospital for minor injuries.”

Strauss-Kahn is married to a French TV Star called Anne Sinclair. Their marriage survived one scandal after Strauss-Khan had a ‘relationship’ with a female member of his staff. He was investigated then for an abuse of power and escaped with a grovelling apology to to his wife and the IMF Board.

He kept his job though and his marriage.

Hopefully the IMF will be able to make a clear statement about the future leadership of the IMF. Obviously Strauss-Khan is innocent until proven guilty but while the investigation is under way the IMF will need clear leadership and direction. Obviously Strauss-Kahn cannot be conducting meetings from a prison cell.

Just today, Strauss-Kahn was due to meet the German Chanceller, Angela Merkel, such is his high powered schedule. Then on Monday he was due to meet European Finance ministers to discuss Portugal and Greece’s bailouts.

His bid for the French Presidency seems all but over too, innocent or guilty, with this black cloud over him.
